Today we will be demonstrating the proper installation of an F-type compression connector to an RG-6 or RG-59 coaxial cable. Many of you will recognize this cable as the exact one used in the connection of your cable box to the cable jack on your wall; but without further ado, let’s get started::
Required Items:
- Compression Tool
- RG-6 or RG-59 Coaxial Cable
- Corresponding RG-6 or RG-59 Compression Connector
- A Cable Cutter (make sure it doesn’t have a flat blade)
- Coaxial Stripper
Instructions:
*This process is the same for both RG-6 and RG-59 cables*
- Begin by stripping the ends of the cable. To do this, take the coaxial stripper and place it at the end of the cable so that it is flush with the end of the stripper @0:42.
- After the coaxial stripper has been applied to the end, twist it (the coaxial stripper) several times while on the end of the cable to strip the sheathing of the cable @0:53.
- After stripping the sheath, the inner components should consist of a braid, the white cord, and the conductor. Identify the braid and pull it back so that it lays flat on the sheathing @1:03.
- Once all of the braid is pulled back, take the compression connector and place it over the end, pushing and twisting it so that it fits snuggly over the cable. The white cord should be flush with the bottom part of the connector if looking at it from above @1:30.
- Grab the compression tool—the tool used in this video has a coaxial insert already installed. Place the end inside the tool, secure the cable, and squeeze the handles until either you can’t squeeze anymore or you deem it securely fastened @1:53.
- Compare your finished cable to ours. How did you do?
